Today’s post is on Linea, a Layer 2 network launched by Metamask.
The Consensys Team did this after raising over $726 million in funding.
But the question remains:
What’s unique about Linea that attracted over half a billion dollars in funding?
Find that out below.
Layer 2 Solutions: Why Linea Will Emerge The Biggest
Layer 2 solutions are protocols that help Layer 1 solutions scale while preserving their security and decentralization.
They are built on top of Layer 1 blockchains and play the role of processing transactions off-chains.
Read more about Layer 2 solutions here.
Linea, an example of a Layer 2 solution, possesses the following characteristics that rank it above other Layer 2 solutions:
First, Linea offers a high throughput and low gas fees.
As an Ethereum layer-2 scaling network, Linea enables developers to build or migrate decentralized apps for Ethereum.
It was created to improve accessibility and usability for developers working with zk-rollups.
If you’re unfamiliar with rollups, it’s a technology that helps fix Ethereum’s low transaction throughput.
There are two kinds: Optimistic and Zero-knowledge or zk
Linea uses zk-rollups to validate transactions, which are safely stored on the Ethereum network.
This approach achieves high throughput and a low transaction cost, making Linea one of the best layer 2 networks.
The second reason is Linea is completely EVM-equivalent. EVM means Ethereum Virtual Machine.
By being EVM-equivalent, developers can use the same tools and infrastructure as they would on Ethereum on Linea.
This makes it easy to move dApps from one chain to another on the Ethereum network without modifying any code.
Additionally, Linea features native connectors, which speed up how quickly developers can share dApps with users.
The number 3 reason is that the Linea network was developed by the Consensys team, owners of MetaMask.
MetaMask has over 21 million active users, and the team is actively working to get these 21 million users to start using the Linea network.
If this happens, the network will be 10x faster in adoption than other popular Layer 2 networks.
Impressively, over 5 million active wallets tested the network when the Linea testnet launched.
Now, this is the highest number ever recorded since Layer 2 networks were invented.
And that’s a good pointer that Linea will scale faster than its competitors.
Lastly, Consensys products are always at the top of their fields, including:
- Infura – which provides instant, scalable API access to Ethereum and other Layer 2 networks
- Diligence – an Ethereum smart contract and security auditing tool
- Truffle – the most trusted tool for creating high-quality Ethereum applications
Linea will likely tread the same path and outshine other Layer 2s.
Already, the network has started wooing people by promising a network gas charge that will be 15X lower than other Layer 2 networks.
Right now, Linea’s mainnet is already functioning, and it will be interesting to watch it rise above other Layer 2 networks.
And who knows?
There might even be an airdrop soon. So, do well to look out for that.
